Sea sick....

Well Brandon and I are in Santorini! It was really crazy trying to get here, but we made it at about 1500.

We are sad to have left Crete, because we really enjoyed the company of the people we met. The receptionist (her name was something like Alana), the bartender (Sevvas) were wonderfully helpful.

Well this morning they were really helpful getting us to the bus stop. Last time we barely missed the bus and had to wait a half an hour before the next one came, but this time we thought we were prepared to make this one, even if we were toting around all of our luggage.

We didn't make it....

But we weren't sure, so we decided to wait and see if it was still to come...

It wasn't....

It takes an hour and a half to get from Agios Nikoloas to Heraklion and catch the ferry. The ferry leaves at 0945, and it was 0830 and Brandon decides to run from the bus stop back to the hotel and call a taxi. He was only gone for about ten minutes. Taxi drivers are pretty speedy.

So Brandon and the taxi driver pick me up, and we are off on our 40 minute drive. Even though it was 5.7 times as much as the bus, we made it in plenty of time to the ferry port, and we were dropped off directly in front of of our ferry. Brandon and I were so relieved to have made it in time.

Except now there was a waiting list to get on the ferry! I'm fairly sure there were two women who didn't make it on... We almost didn't, we were the last of 8 people. They told Brandon they had one seat left, but he got two tickets, and we were told we wouldn't have a seat. That as fine with us, just as long as we didn't miss our ferry! Because the next one was going to be the next day, and we would have had to spend a lot more money on a hotel in Heraklion, not to mention the 80 euros we spent on a taxi to rush to the port!

We ended up getting seats, because the stewardess I think scrambled around and moved people closer together. She was really nice. Brandon and I were once again relieved! This was the third thing that happened in our favor within two hours!

Except we were taking a small ferry...

It's not a super small ferry, but it's smaller than the cruise liner we were on before. And you could really feel the waves on this one, not to mention it was going fast... crashing over rolling waves, taking on the sea.

Brandon and I got sick. It was awful. Well, I didn't throw up, because I had only eaten a few bites hours before, so I didn't have anything in my stomach. I only felt perpetually ill, and burped a lot.. gross, I know.

Brandon wasn't much better, but he was able to make the whole trip without any mishaps. It was when we began slowing down and we had to stand up near the doors that he tossed up his, larger, breakfast. I felt really bad for him.

Brandon and I hadn't planned on getting transport, but yesterday we decided it was a good idea because we didn't want to get lost or flustered. We are really glad we did, because as soon as we got off the ferry, all ill, we found Costos, who works at Maria's Place. The drive was really nice, and we have been here, gone out to eat and buy groceries, and we are going to relax the rest of the night and put stuff away. This is going to be a very relaxing trip. There don't seem to be a lot of archaeological sites, and the island is small enough that with a car we will be able to see it all in a day or two.

I'm going to cut this short (this post? short?), and I will post more tomorrow. Today has been windy and cold, and tomorrow is supposed to rain, so it will be a great day for blogging.

Until then!
